QuestionWhat is the slip of an AC induction motor with a synchronous speed of 1800 rpm and a rotor speed of 1760 rpm?

Answer:    a.) 2.2. Congratulations to Jared Singer for winning a Taylor Made Tour Burner Rescue Hybrid!

Recently ASHRAE hosted a Geothermal Water Source Heat Pump Satellite Broadcast.  One of the   concepts discussed during the  presentation was “Centralized Geothermal Heat Pumps.”  Centralized  Geothermal Systems can be indoors or outdoors and the general concept is to consolidate the multiple individual smaller heat pumps into one or a few larger centralized systems.  The advantages to the    centralized system are reduced maintenance,  reduced or centralized sound, different filtration options and simpler   piping and ductwork.  Another significant economic impact in our climate zone is that the economizer is back in play.  If you look at the graph (left) it displays the different    ambient temperatures in Northeast Ohio and the amount  of time we spend at those temperatures.  What is important to note is the large amount of hours that we spend below our desired   indoor condition (72F).  In a VAV Geothermal Scenario we can use the outdoor ambient for free cooling during these hours.  This result could be more efficient geothermal operation at a lower installed cost.
