This month we’re going to review the Munters Dry Cool ERV DOAS system.

First the ERV provides free cooling in the summer to pre-cool the OA.  Second the DX cooling coil draws the temperature down to the required saturation point.    Finally the desiccant wheel provides free                   dehumidification and reheat to deliver neutral,           dehumidified supply air.

With every desiccant system you need to regenerate the wheel with a heat source in order for it to absorb     moisture in the supply air.  Munters provides a          consistent amount of heat from the condenser coil to regenerate the wheel.  This is extremely important in part load conditions as lower regeneration temperatures decreases the desiccant’s ability to  absorb moisture and reheat the supply air.  RA and OA are both         inconsistent sources of reactivation air and can be laden with  moisture which inhibits the desiccant wheel’s ability to perform and can even add moisture to the supply air.  RA or OA should not be used for  regeneration unless accompanied by another heat source such as electric, gas, hot water or steam heat.  If additional heat cannot be used, then the system must compensate for the lack of performance with additional mechanical cooling.  Both of these options complicates the system operation and controls, adds cost to the unit and decreases the system EER.

The Munters Dry Cool ERV DOAS system can be placed indoors or outdoors, provides consistent         dehumidified, neutral air at all conditions, and operates at a 22 EER!
