Underfloor Air Distribution & Passive Chilled Beams |
|
The combination of an Underfloor Air Distribution (UFAD) system and Passive Chilled Beams can make an extremely desirable HVAC system for an owner and it’s building’s occupants. While UFAD provides an economical and versatile HVAC system, it usually falls short around the perimeter of the building. Part is due to skin loading. Part is due to the heat gain as cold air travels to the perimeter and gains heat from the building slab. This heat gain usually overcomes the systems ability to cool on the perimeter, either causing an uncomfortable building or rising energy costs. This can be addressed comfortably and economically with a Passive Chilled Beam system on the perimeter. Passive chilled beams do not require any additional ductwork, and provide a simple means to get perimeter cooling, and providing it through natural convection. Add a perimeter hot water radiant system and you have perfect comfort year round. |
