Single Zone VAV

Single zone VAV seems like an odd combination of words, but in reality it is a very useful and effective means to maintain  temperature and humidity in large volume spaces.  The name is exactly as it implies.  One zone.  There are no VAV boxes  installed so there is no need for any additional equipment or controls.  You utilize what you already have in a manner           differently than before.

Single zone VAV can be applied to large zones that have typically been designed as constant volume units in the past.  The internal load will typically vary quite a bit due to occupant fluctuations, lighting and building loads.  The unit will be designed to maintain a constant 55°F supply air temperature (SAT) during the summer months and 90°F during winter months.  When the internal load is reduced the fan and compressor will modulate down in capacity and cfm to maintain the SAT.  As the load   increases so will the compressor capacity and fan speed to continue to maintain the SAT.  What happens at off-peak load conditions is fantastic.  When the compressor and fan speed are reduced you are saving energy.  At the same time the sound levels are reduced due to the decreased rpm of the fan.  Also, by maintaining the 55°F SAT at all times you are taking advantage of constant                    dehumidification.

What this translates into is energy savings, sound         reduction and improved comfort control in the space at all conditions.

Aaon’s complete line of products with modulating   compressors allow you to design single zone vav      systems with packaged rooftops, split systems or      geothermal units.
