Text Box: August Question & Answer:

It’s time to THINK DIFFERENT when it comes to heat pumps.  A    typical heat pump design today consists of 10, 20, 30 or more heat pumps to accommodate zoning.  How about eliminating all those heat pumps and just going with a couple of air handlers?  How do you handle zoning?  With a VAV system.  It’s now possible through Aaon and the use of  variable capacity compressors and variable frequency drives.  Design your system using air to air, water cooled or geothermal heat pumps, but maintain simplicity by using air handlers, rooftops or split systems     instead of dozens of terminal units.  An additional advantage is now you can utilize the economizer cycle, which was not possible with terminal units.  Add an integral energy recovery wheel and gain even more energy savings and add additional value to your HVAC system.
